The campaign has truly been speeding up over the past couple of weeks. On Tuesday, June 23rd, I attended the Cowlitz County Republican Party Candidate Forum in Kelso. I consider it to have been a success. Not only did I answer all the questions I was asked, but I also had the person speaking in support of my opponent go out of his way to comment how he and I had worked together for several years on legislation, and that I was a "good guy".
Also, another legislator, this time a Democrat from an adjoining district came to my defense on Facebook. Someone erroneously posted that Peter Abarnno's opponent was a socialist, without mentioning Peter's opponents name. Within a very short time, this Democrat legislator, who I have worked with on legislation for several years as well, posted "Brian Lange is not a socialist". To me, it is a good sign that my running is known to Democrats outside the district. It means that they are aware of me, and my campaign. I find it even more encouraging that my reputation is known and that he felt strong enough to defend me when he saw me being erroneously maligned. That is one of the benefits of being able to work with legislators from both sides of the aisle to get legislation passed over the last several years.
The final bit of news that I have to update everyone on was on Thursday, the 25th, I was on KEDO AM 1400 news talk radio program. We must have spent 20 minutes discussing my work getting legislation passed in Olympia. Talking about the process of; crafting bill language, gathering co-sponsors, working to gain bipartisan support, and testifying in legislative hearings. By the time we had finished the program, he was impressed with my breadth of experience working in Olympia with legislators, and knowing the process and players so well. I can only hope the listeners felt that way as well.
I am currently working out plans to hold a series of voter registration events throughout the district. Helping people get registered, so that they can vote. This has been an extremely unique year in our history so far, and because of that I feel this election is going to be even more critical than they usually are. Together we can work to put Washington back on the course towards the great freedom loving state she is destined to be.
